The Altima has always been a vehicle that has set the standard of excellence for others in the mid-sized sedan segment. Nissan has decided to raise the bar even higher for the Altima’s latest model. That means more technology, improved safety features and a bold new look for a brand-new year.
Altima Upgrades for 2018
The 2018 Nissan Altima lineup includes five models: 2.5 S, 2.5 SR, 2.5 SV, 2.5 SL and 3.5 SL. This is two less than last year’s line up. All trim levels come with Nissan’s advanced Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (I-FCW).
The highest trims enjoy standard Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), the latest version of NissanConnectSM and, of course, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Special Edition 2.5 SR features NissanConnect with Navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7.0-inch color audio display, heated front seats, a fresh wheel design and much more.
Safety a Top Priority in the 2018 Altima
The 2018 Altima offers over a dozen innovative safety and convenience features. Standard technologies include Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (I-FCW) on all trims.
AEB gives drivers warnings if there is a potential collision on the horizon and adjusts speed accordingly. I-FCW works to warn drivers of risks they can’t see themselves by figuring out the speed and distance of other vehicles on the road.
Radar-based Blind Spot Warning (BSW) is standard on SV and SL models. Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) are available with the 2.5 SL Tech Package and standard on the 3.5 SL.
Performance and Engine Specs
The 2018 Altima offers buyers two engines – a 2.5-liter DOHC inline 4-cylinder and a 3.5-liter DOHC V6. The 2.5-liter engine keeps the torque curve flat and features cutting-edge technology that makes for a lot of power — 179 horsepower and 177 lb.-ft. of torque. The 3.5-liter engine is even stronger, putting out 270 of solid horsepower.
If you decided to go the 2.5-liter route, your Altima is fitted with an efficient Xtronic transmission. This new technology facilitates more responsive acceleration, regardless if you’re at a complete stop or already in motion.
Another exciting addition for 2018 is a brand-new 4-wheel independent suspension. The front suspension uses an independent strut design, while the rear suspension uses inspiration from leading European sports sedans. Together, drivers will instantly notice a more dynamic response and tighter handling.
A Design You Won’t Soon Forget
The Nissan Altima is available in eight colors: Brilliant Silver, Gun Metallic, Super Black, Scarlet Ember, Pearl White, Glacier White, Deep Blue Pearl and Storm Blue.
For 2018, Nissan has lowered the Altima’s front, giving it’s unique “V-motion” grille a more powerful face. Buyers can also include available LED signature boomerang headlights, fog lights, and Daytime Running Lights; modern-day features that put this sedan in a league of its own.
The Altima offers standard fabric seats inside with a 6-way adjustable driver’s seat. A 60/40 split folding bench seat can be found in the back. Black interior trim with chrome finish accents are standard throughout.
Buyers have the option of leather-appointed seats and trim, 6-way or 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support and a 4-way power front passenger seat. Depending on which trim you choose, heated front seats are available.
You can even opt for Carbon Wave tone (Charcoal interior) or Brushed Silver Wave tone (Beige interior) interior trim finishers if you want a more luxurious feel. The Special Edition 2.5 includes sporty accents like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and paddle shifters.
